GOVERNANCE

The NYS Board of Directors is composed of volunteers from the Algoma and Sudbury-Manitoulin communities. Individuals with varying backgrounds and expertise are sought, including financial, legal, education, mental health and policing, among others, depending on governance needs. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board through the President of the Board of Directors and is accountable to the Board for all NYS operations.

Northern Youth Services Inc. delivers services to young persons in conflict with the law who require detention,

custody or who are involved with our community-based programs.

 

Northern Youth Services Inc. envisions a future where all North Eastern Ontario area youth have the

skills and opportunities they need to respond positively in any situation.


For the youth we serve – those currently, or at risk of being, in conflict with the law.

 

Northern Youth Services Inc. is currently recruiting volunteers with a professional background in education,

finance, social services, police services, representatives from the First Nations communities,

representatives from the Francophone community, or community at large to serve on the Board of Directors.

 

Volunteer Board members will:

- Reside within North Eastern Ontario area

- Have an interest in Youth Justice Programs and Services

- Provide governance, leadership and strategic direction

- Ensure organization compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements

- Ensure the effectiveness, credibility and viability of the organization

- Avoid any potential conflicts of interest

- Understand and maintain confidentiality

- Participate in Board development activities

- Prepare for all meetings by reading agendas, minutes and other reports

- Attend and actively participate in Board meetings, the third (3rd) Wednesday of the month in the early evening

(excluding July, August and December), and the Annual General Meeting held in June

- Ability to connect to meetings virtually via Zoom

- Ability to commit to an initial two (2) years of service
